    NOTICE

    Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

    Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.

    Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Clean all parts and inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new Caterpillar parts for replacement. Lubricate the O-ring seals with the lubricant that is being sealed.

  1. Make sure that Tooling (A) and the cribbing are properly supporting the scraper bowl.

  1. Make sure that the lift truck is properly attached to the tractor. Make sure that the tractor is properly supported by Tooling (B) .

  1. Make sure that Tooling (C) is properly seated between the cushion-hitch and the frame.

    Note: The bottom washer will need to be positioned to the cushion-hitch when the tractor and the scraper are connected.

  1. Position four washers (23) to the cushion-hitch. Carefully connect and slowly connect the tractor and the scraper.

  1. Use a soft faced hammer to install hitch pin (22) that secures the tractor and the scraper together. Position plate (21) to hitch pin (22) . Install the washers and two bolts (20) that secure plate (21) to hitch pin (22) .

  1. Use a soft faced hammer to install hitch pin (19) that secures the tractor and the scraper together.

  1. Position plate (18) to the hitch pin. Install the washers and two bolts (17) that secure plate (18) to the hitch pin.

  1. Align the steering links and the steering cylinder. Use a soft faced hammer to install pin (16) that secures the steering links and the steering cylinder. Connect lubrication line (15) to the steering cylinder. Repeat the procedure for the other side.

  1. Position plate (14) to the steering links and the steering cylinder. Install the washers and two bolts (13) that secure plate (14) to the steering links and the steering cylinder. Repeat the procedure for the other side.

  1. Position bracket (12) , the wiring harnesses and the hose assemblies to the draft frame. Install the washers and two bolts (11) that secure bracket (12) to the draft frame.

  1. Position two wiring harnesses (3) to bracket (9) . Install the clip, the washer and bolt (10) that secures two wiring harnesses (3) to bracket (9) . Position two hose assemblies (5) to bracket (9) . Install the clips, the washers and two bolts (8) that secure two hose assemblies (5) to bracket (9) .

  1. Connect the O-ring seals and eight hose assemblies (7) to the draft frame.

  1. Position the O-ring seals and two hose assemblies (5) to tube assemblies (6) . Install four half flanges, the washers and eight bolts (4) that secure two hose assemblies (5) to tube assemblies (6) .

  1. Connect two wiring harnesses (3) to the draft frame.

  1. Install the clip, the washer and bolt (2) that secures two wiring harnesses (3) to the draft frame.

  1. Connect the O-ring seals and six hose assemblies (1) to the draft frame and the cushion-hitch.

  1. Remove the tooling from the tractor and the scraper.

  1. Check the fluid level. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU7143 for the appropriate oil and the appropriate filling procedure.
