Installation Procedure

NOTICE
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

1. Clean all parts and inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new Caterpillar parts for replacement. Lubricate the O-ring seals with the lubricant that is being sealed.

2. Position the steering cylinder to the machine. The steering cylinder weighs 83 kg (183 lb). Use a soft faced hammer to install pin (9) that secures the steering cylinder to the machine. Install pin (8) that secures pin (9) to the steering cylinder.

3. Use a soft faced hammer to install pin (6) that secures the steering cylinder and the steering links. Connect lubrication line (7) to the steering cylinder.

4. Position plate (5) to the steering cylinder. Install the washers and two bolts (4) that secure plate (5) to the steering cylinder.

5. Position the O-ring seals and two hose assemblies (2) to steering cylinder (3). Install four half flanges, the washers and eight bolts (1) that secure two hose assemblies (2) to steering cylinder (3). Remove the tooling from the steering cylinder.
