Track Roller Frame - Remove

Start By:

  1. Separate the track. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Track - Separate" for the machine that is being serviced.

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury or death can result from falling track.

Separating a track can cause the track to fall too fast.

Before doing any service work which requires separating a track, a thorough inspection of the front track roller frame must be made.

The tractor must be on a hard, level surface before the track roller frame is removed.

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Lift the front and the rear of the machine by using Tooling (A). Install Tooling (B) .

    Note: There will be a loss of oil when you remove retainer (1) .

  1. Remove the bolts and retainer (1) from the roller frame.

  1. Remove O-Ring seal (2) from retainer (1) .

  1. Fasten a hoist to track roller frame (3), as shown.

  1. Install steel shims at location (X) between the equalizer bar and the main frame in order to keep the equalizer bar in the original position when the track roller frame is removed.

    Note: In order to remove pin assembly (4), it may be necessary to raise the track roller frame or it may be necessary to lower the track roller frame. Use an appropriate hoist.

  1. Remove bolt (5). Remove pin assembly (4) from the track roller frame.

  1. Remove three bolts (6) and plate (7) that holds the track roller frame in position on the pivot shaft.

  1. Remove the track roller frame from the machine by using a hoist. The weight of the track roller frame is 930 kg (2050 lb).

  1. Remove bearings (8) from the track roller frame, if necessary.

  1. Remove seal (10) from pivot shaft (9) .
