Metering Pump (Steering) - Assemble

Usage:

966G 3PW

Assembly Procedure

Note: Make sure that all parts of the steering metering pump are clean prior to assembly. During assembly, apply clean SAE 10 oil on the internal parts of the steering metering pump.

  1. Check the condition of all O-ring seals. If any seal is worn or damaged, use a new part for replacement.

  2. Install O-ring seals (23) and (25) on seat (24).

  3. Install retainer (27), ball (26), seat (24) and plug (22) in the pump body. The torque for plug (22) is 11 ± 2 N·m (8 ± 1 lb ft).

Note: The plug must not protrude from the surface of the pump body. The plug must be flush with the surface of the pump body or the plug must be below the surface of the pump body.

  7. Assemble the sleeve assembly, as follows:

    1. Install six springs (13) in spool (12). There must be three springs on each side. Make sure that the curves of the springs are in contact and in the center of the spool. The notched side of the spring ends must face toward the sleeve.

    2. Install sleeve (11) over spool (12). The notch in the sleeve must engage with the ends of spring (13).

    3. Install pin (14).

  14. Position cap (2) on the gerotor assembly.

  15. Install seven bolts (1). Tighten the bolts in the following manner:

      Illustration 14g00361939

    1. Tighten the bolts in the numerical sequence that is shown in Illustration 14. The initial torque for the bolts is 14 ± 3 N·m (10 ± 2 lb ft).

    2. Tighten the bolts again in the numerical sequence that is shown in Illustration 14. The final torque for the bolts is 28 ± 3 N·m (21 ± 2 lb ft).

End By:

  1. Install the steering metering pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Metering Pump (Steering) - Install".
