The electrical system for the automatic lubrication system consists of the following components:

  • VIMS main module (1)

  • Message center module (2)

  • VIMS keypad module (4)

  • Interface modules (5) and (6) for the VIMS

  • Pressure sensor (7) for the lubricant

  • Electric solenoid air valve (8)

Note: The components for the VIMS are connected with the Cat data link.

View of the Pressure Sensor

(7) Pressure sensor for the lubricant.

The VIMS energizes electric solenoid air valve (8) at specific intervals.

After the engine has started, the automatic lubrication system enters a two minute initial startup delay when either of the following conditions is met:

  • The engine speed is greater than 400 rpm.

  • The engine speed is less than 400 rpm and the engine oil pressure is greater than 200 kPa (29.0 psi).

After the initial startup delay, the VIMS will energize electric solenoid air valve (8) for 60 seconds while either of the following conditions is met:

  • The engine speed is greater than 1000 rpm.

  • The engine speed is less than 400 rpm and the engine oil pressure is greater than 200 kPa (29.0 psi).

Then, the VIMS de-energizes the electric solenoid air valve. At every 15 minute interval, the VIMS will energize the electric solenoid air valve for 60 seconds. This continues until one of the following conditions is met:

  • The engine speed is less than 1000 rpm.

  • The engine speed is less than 400 rpm and the engine oil pressure is greater than 200 kPa (29.0 psi).

  • The engine is turned off.

The lubrication interval can be adjusted. The time can be adjusted from five minutes to 15 minutes in one minute increments. The default time is 15 minutes. In order to adjust the lubrication interval, the operator must enter "582738" or "LUBSET" on keypad (4). The operator must then press the "OK" key. The duration of each cycle can be adjusted from 60 seconds to 120 seconds in one second increments. The default time is 60 seconds. For additional information on adjusting the cycle time, refer to the following section: Service Manual, RENR2515, "Electrical System - Test".

The automatic lubrication system can be activated manually. In order to manually operate the lubrication system, the operator must enter "582626" or "LUBMAN" on keypad (4). The operator must then press the "OK" key. This will activate the automatic lubrication system for one complete cycle. The engine speed does not need to be greater than 1000 rpm for manually operating the lubrication system.

The VIMS monitors pressure sensor (7). If the pressure of the lubricant is not correct the VIMS will display a warning. For additional information on the pressure sensor, refer to the following section: Service Manual, RENR2515, "Lubrication System".

(7) Final installation torque for the pressure sensor ... 10 ± 2 N·m (90.0 ± 20.0 lb in)

For additional information on the VIMS, refer to Service Manual, SENR6059, "Vital Information Management System (VIMS)".
