Variable Valve Actuator Oil Pressure Solenoid - Remove and Install

Removal Procedure


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

  1. Disconnect the harness assembly. Remove variable valve actuator oil pressure solenoid (1) from the valve cover base. Remove the O-ring seal.

  2. Remove nut (2). Remove coil assembly (3) from valve cartridge (4).

Installation Procedure


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

  1. Install coil assembly (3) and nut (2) on valve cartridge (4). Tighten the nut to a torque of 10 ± 1.5 N·m (89 ± 13 lb in).

  2. Install the O-ring seal on variable valve actuator oil pressure solenoid (1). Install the variable valve actuator oil pressure solenoid and tighten to a torque of 40 ± 5 N·m (30 ± 4 lb ft).

  3. Connect the harness assembly.
