Removal Procedure

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |

Keep all parts clean from contaminants. Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life. |
Hot oil and hot components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or hot components to contact the skin. |
- Remove drain plug (4) and the O-ring seal. Drain the engine oil into a suitable container for storage or disposal.
Note: Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Refill Capacities and Recommendations" for information on the capacity of the lubrication system.

- Remove bolts (1) that fasten engine oil pan (3) to the cylinder block.
- Remove engine oil pan (3) from the cylinder block.
- Remove gasket (2) from the cylinder block and the engine oil pan.
Installation Procedure

- Clean the sealing surface of the engine oil pan, cylinder block, housing (front), and the flywheel housing.
- Install gasket (2) on engine oil pan (3) .

- Put engine oil pan (3) in position and install bolts (1). Tighten the bolts to a torque of 55 ± 10 N·m (41 ± 7 lb ft).
- Install the O-ring seal and drain plug (4). Tighten the drain plug to a torque of 75 ± 15 N·m (55 ± 11 lb ft).
- Fill the engine oil pan to the correct level that is indicated on the engine oil level gauge. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Refill Capacities and Recommendations" for the lubrication system capacity of the engine.
