Engine Oil Cooler - Remove

Removal Procedure


    NOTICE

    Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

    Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

    Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.



    NOTICE

    Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

    Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.


  1. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant - Change".

  1. Disconnect hose assembly (5) .

  1. Remove bolts (6) .

  1. Remove bonnet (7) and the integral seal from the water pump. Remove the O-ring seal from the bonnet.

  1. Remove bolts (8) .

  1. Rotate engine oil cooler (4) and slide the engine oil cooler toward the front of the engine in order to remove the engine oil cooler from cooler bonnet (1) and the oil filter base.

  1. Remove the O-ring seal from cooler bonnet (1). Remove O-ring seals (9) from oil filter base (10) .

  1. Remove bolts (3) .

  1. Remove bolts (2) and remove cooler bonnet (1) from the cylinder block and the transmission oil cooler. Remove the gaskets from the cooler bonnet.

  1. If necessary, clean the tubes of the engine oil cooler with a 3.81 mm (0.150 inch) diameter rod that is approximately 457 mm (18 inch) long.
