Event codes alert the operator that an abnormal engine operating condition such as low oil pressure or high coolant temperature has been detected. Events do not indicate problems with the electronic system. Event codes also indicate the nature of the problem. Event codes may be viewed on a personal computer that has the software for the Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET).

Illustration 1 indicates output voltage from the coolant temperature sensor. Cat ET can be used to turn these features on and off. When the features are turned on, the display will appear on an electronic monitoring module and an event can be logged in the ECM. When the features are turned off, the display will not appear on a monitoring module, but an event can still be logged on the ECM.
