Improvements Made To Marine Transmissions{3300}

Usage:

7211, 7221 Marine Transmissions

SUPPLEMENT: 11/22/82

SERVICE MAGAZINE, OCTOBER 4, 1982, PAGE 6. In the article "Improvements Made To Marine Transmissions," there is a wrong specification in the first sentence of the Note. Change 71 mm (2.8") to 75.7 mm (2.98").

--------------- END SUPPLEMENT ---------------

Description of Change: Several improvements have been made to 7211 and 7221 Marine Transmissions.

... A single piece output shaft is no longer used. A separate output shaft group and splined output flange group with hardware is now used for easier replacement of the output shaft seal.

... The transmission housing now has a stronger rear cover to prevent failures caused by forces from the propeller shaft. The new rear cover has more ribs around the propeller shaft opening and is made of stronger material than the former cover.

... The transmission front cover now has air holes in it to keep the flywheel housing cooler during engine operation. This will give the rubber drive blocks a longer service life.

... "Oil catchers" are now used inside the transmission housings to give better lubrication to the output shaft bearings.

Adaptable To: These four improvements are in effect on 7211 Marine Transmissions (Serial No. 66X1000) and on 7221 Marine Transmissions (Serial No. 98X1000). The improvements are adaptable to all earlier 7211 and 7221 Marine Transmissions as shown in the charts.

NOTE: Installation of the new output shaft and flange groups will move the output flange approximately 75.7 mm (2.98") toward the rear. This change in location may make other modifications necessary in some applications.
