Engine News SEBD9377, 05 December 2005, "Hydraulically Fractured Connecting Rods are Now in Production". Disregard this article. Refer to the following to the following article.

The above engines have changed to the hydraulically fractured connecting rods.

The engines that are in Table 1 use the serrated connecting rods or the flat connecting rods. This is for the service requirements.

Table 1
Engines with Serrated Connecting Rods or Flat Connecting Rods
Sales Model     Serial number
3054     S/N:6FK1-10030
3054     S/N:4ZK1-09049
3054     S/N:5YS1-13498
3054     S/N:2PW1-00501
3054B     S/N:5MF1-10039

Note: Do not stamp the new connecting rod.

The caps are installed on the connecting rods from the factory. The assembly maintains the proper fit of the cap. The bolts for the connecting rods are tightened to a torque of 20 N·m (15 lb ft). This torque is only for storage of the connecting rods. Only remove the cap and bolts when you are ready to install the connecting rod.

Note: The caps and the rods must stay together as a pair.

Tighten the new bolts for the connecting rod to a torque of 70 N·m (52 lb ft). Tighten the bolts for an additional 120 degrees.

Note: Do not reuse the connecting rod bolts. New connecting rod bolts should be used.

Aligning the connecting rod bearing in the center of the connecting rod

  1. Install the upper half of the connecting rod bearing to the connecting rod. Ensure that the connecting rod bearing is centralized in the connecting rod. Refer to Illustration 1.

  1. Install the lower half of connecting rod bearing to connecting rod cap. Ensure that the connecting rod bearing is centralized in the connecting rod cap. Refer to Illustration 1.
