Truck Engine News SEBD6764, January 2004, "A New Spring for the Oil Filter Bypass Valve and for the Oil Cooler Bypass Valve is Now in Production". Disregard this article. See the article that follows.

A new stronger spring for the engine oil filter bypass valve and the engine oil cooler bypass valve has been released. The new spring has a higher spring rate and a higher preload when the spring is assembled. This combination of spring rate and preload improves cleanliness of the oil by allowing less oil to bypass the oil filter during cold starting conditions. Specifications for the spring have also changed. Refer to Table 1.

(1) 242-3864 Springs

Note: Engines that are equipped with a remote oil filter base require three 242-3864 Springs .

The former 9L-9188 Spring has not been cancelled. The 9L-9188 Spring is still available for parts service in other applications of this spring.
