当接线盒 (1) 中的ECM收到起动输入，ECM向两个电磁开关 (2) 提供蓄电池正极电压。 电磁开关位于发动机侧的分线盒内。 来自ECM的起动命令由断路器 (3) 保护。
两个电磁开关在次级电路中与两个起动马达电磁阀 (4) 相连。 起动命令闭合电磁开关触点，以便接通次级电路。 这样使起动马达电磁阀通电。
起动马达电磁阀通电使得起动马达小齿轮与飞轮齿圈啮合。
起动马达电磁阀也与另一个电路相连，该电路在起动马达和转动起动马达的+24 VDC电源之间。 起动马达小齿轮与飞轮齿圈啮合后，起动马达电磁阀触点接通另一个转动起动马达的电路。
起动马达起动盘车发动机直到ECM探测到盘车终止转速。 然后，ECM从电磁开关撤走蓄电池正极电压。 电磁开关触点打开，从起动马达电磁阀上撤走蓄电池正极电压。 起动马达电磁阀触点打开，从起动马达上撤走起动盘车的+24 VDC。 起动马达小齿轮与飞轮齿圈分离。
