Description of Change: A new fractured connecting rod is now available.
- The new rod can accept higher loads because of clearly matched joint surfaces.
- The fractured surface of the connecting rod and cap will allow easier assembly of the rod and cap.
- The new design on the connecting rod eliminates the need for a locating dowel.
- The new connecting rod effectively eliminates fretting on the joint surface.
- The new connecting rod improves the quality of the machining process due to reduced steps in the machining process and controlled machining process.
- The machining process is further enhanced by the fracture machine, which incorporates automatic insertion of the connecting rod bolts and fastening equipment for the connecting rod bolts. This eliminates mismatch of connecting rod and cap components.
Adaptable To: The 2W-9128 Connecting Rod will be replaced by the 213-3193 Connecting Rod. The new connecting rod will be used on all applications with the 3114, 3116, 3126, and 3126B engines.
Torque values are different between the 2W-9128 Connecting Rod and the 213-3193 Connecting Rod .
The torque for the connecting rod cap bolt for the 2W-9128 Connecting Rod is 54 ± 7 N·m (40 ± 5 lb ft) plus an additional 60 ± 5 degrees (1/6 of a turn).
The torque for the connecting cap bolt for the 213-3193 Connecting Rod is 70 ± 5 N·m (52 ± 4 lb ft) plus an additional 120 ± 5 degrees (1/3 of a turn).
