Procedure Reduces Possibility Of Spraying Hot Hydraulic Oil When S.O.S. Sample Is Taken{0372,5068}

Usage:

All Caterpillar Products Equipped With Hydraulic Systems

Hot oil can be sprayed if the cap on the hydraulic tank is removed to take an S.O.S. sample when the hydraulic system is hot. This is the result of pressure in the tank and the hydraulic oil level.

To reduce the possibility of oil spraying, use the procedure which follows:

1. Extend all of the hydraulic cylinders as far as possible (without raising the machine or any implements off of the ground.)

2. Place a shop towel over the filler cap. Slowly loosen the cap to release the pressure.

3. After the pressure is released, remove the cap.

4. Use a vacuum sampling gun to remove the oil sample. Be careful, at all times, to prevent contact with the hot oil.

This procedure will reduce the pressure in the hydraulic tank and lower the level of oil in the tank.
