冷却液从散热器 (1) 底部流到离心式水泵 (5)。 水泵驱动冷却液在整个系统内流动。 水泵安装在正时齿轮箱前部，并且由曲轴皮带轮的皮带驱动。
水泵迫使冷却液流经缸体 (6) 内水套前部的通道。
部分冷却液流入发动机机油冷却器 (7)。 冷却液绕经机油冷却器的元件流回缸体。
之后冷却液流经贯穿整个缸体长度的通道进入缸盖 (3)。
冷却液继续经缸盖流入水温调节器壳体 (2)。 如果水温调节器关闭，冷却液直接流经旁通管 (4) 进入水泵进口侧。 如果水温调节器开启，旁通水道关闭，冷却液流到散热器顶部。
