PROBLEM
The electric starter motor may have loose connections on certain D7R Series II Track-Type Tractors. The starter motor nut connections need to be tightened to the proper torque to provide adequate contact between the wire terminals and the starter motor. The electric starter motor may have reduced life if the battery cable and the starter terminal wire assembly do not have good contact with the electric starter motor.AFFECTED PRODUCT

ACTION REQUIRED
2. Tighten nut (3) to a torque of 2.25 +/- 0.25 N.m (1.66 +/- 0.20 lb ft) in order to secure the starter terminal wire assembly.
3. Make sure that the battery cable is positioned along the ladder clip and that tie wrap (2) is used to secure the battery cable to the ladder clip.

Contact your local Caterpillar dealer immediately to schedule this service. The dealer will advise you of the time required to complete this service. Please refer the dealer to their Service Letter dated October 24, 2002 when scheduling this service. You will not be charged for the service performed.
