NOTE: The information supplied in this service letter may not be valid after the termination date of this program. Do not perform the work outlined in this Service Letter after the termination date without first contacting your Caterpillar product analyst.
NOTE: This Program can be administered either before or after a failure. In either case the decision whether to apply the Program is made by the dealer. When reporting the repair, use "PS8408" as the Part Number and "7755" as the Group Number. If administered before failure, use "56" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and use "T" as the SIMS Description Code. If administered after failure, use "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and use "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.
NOTE: This Revised Service Letter replaces the September 29, 1995 (Revised October 1996) Service Letter . Changes have been made to the Termination Date.

The cylinder heads on certain 793 and 793B Trucks and 3516 Engines may crack between the injector wall and internal coolant passages allowing fuel to mix with the coolant.

- 16 - 0R4983 Cylinder Head
Action Required
Remove the existing cylinder heads and install 0R4983 Cylinder Heads. Refer to the Illustrations 1 and 2 below to identify the new cylinder head design from the existing cylinder head design. Illustration 3 identifies the location where the existing cylinder head may crack.

Service Claim Allowances
Caterpillar will contribute $225.00 USD for each cylinder head replaced. Submit one claim for each serial number reworked listing an amount for $225.00 USD times the number of cylinder heads replaced. List the total amount on a single miscellaneous line. There is no age or hour limit on the products covered by this Program. No labor or other expenses may be submitted on this Program.
Parts Disposition
Handle the parts in accordance with your Warranty Bulletin on warranty parts handling.
NOTE: Note:Each core returned for core credit must be either tagged or marked with a paint stick, "793" or "793B" depending on the model it came from.Also, cylinder heads with known internal cracks must be tagged or marked "Internal Cracks".
