In the above-referenced procedures, the list of possible causes of a CID 190 FMI 02 is incorrect. The corrected list of possible CID 190 FMI 02 causes is shown below.

The possible causes of a CID 190 FMI 02 are listed below:

  • The frequency of the signal is below acceptable limits. There is a short to the battery negative terminal.

  • The air gap of the speed sensor is too large.

  • The GSC has detected a raised oil pressure but the engine speed signal indicates 0 RPM. This may occur during the started rest cycle. See Test Step 9.

In the above-referenced procedures, a Test Step was omitted. Add the Test Step that is shown below.

TEST STEP 9. Oil Pressure Check.

Note: During the GSC starting routine, the GSC records the oil pressure prior to each crank attempt. If the oil pressure reading is 21 kPa greater than the oil pressure that was recorded prior to the last crank attempt, the GSC will issue a 190-02 diagnostic.

  1. Hold the fuel OFF.

  1. Turn the ECS to START/RUN. The starter should engage and crank for the programmed time. The starter should stop and rest for the programmed time.

  1. During the rest cycle, monitor the oil pressure. If the oil pressure does not completely fall back to 0 kPa (0 psi) prior to the next crank cycle, the crank time setpoint must be adjusted as described in Step 3.a.

    1. Increase the crank time setpoint in increments of 5 seconds until the oil pressure (in Step 3) falls to 0 kPa (0 psi).

  1. The 190-02 diagnostic should no longer appear during a starter rest cycle.
