Heat Exchanger - Remove

Removal Procedure


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.



NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Remove two bolts (5) and retainers (4) that hold ring (6) in position in flange (3).

  2. Remove bolts (2 ) that hold flange (3) and tube (1).

  3. Remove two bolts (7) and retainers (8) that hold ring (10) in position in flange (11).

  4. Remove bolts (9) that fasten flange (11) and tube (1) to the valve.

  5. Remove tube (1).

  6. Remove bolts (12) and valve (13) from elbow (14).

  7. Remove gauge (15).

  8. Remove the two bolts and the retainers that hold the ring in position on tube (16). Remove the two bolts on the opposite end of the tube. Remove tube (16).

  9. Remove two bolts (17) and the retainers that hold the ring in position on tube assembly (19).

  10. Remove four bolts (20) and the gasket from the water temperature regulator housing.

  11. Remove the bolt and two clips (18). Remove tube assembly (19).

  12. Remove bolts (24) that fasten tube assembly (21) to the pipe assembly. Remove the gasket.

  13. Remove nuts (22). Remove tube assemblies (21) and (23).

  14. Remove nuts (25) and tube assembly (26).

  15. Remove hose assembly (27) and tube assembly (28) from separator assembly (29).

  16. Remove nuts (30) from the studs of the heat exchanger.

  17. Remove three bolts (31) and use two technicians to remove separator assembly (29). The weight of the separator assembly is 39 kg (85 lb).

  18. Remove four gaskets (32) from the heat exchanger.

  19. Position a nylon strap (33) and a suitable lifting device on heat exchanger (34).

  20. Remove bolt (35) that is used to fasten the heat exchanger to the frame.

  21. Remove two bolts (36) that fasten the heat exchanger to the frame.

  22. Remove the heat exchanger. The weight of the heat exchanger is 426 kg (940 lb).
