Reference: Special Instruction, REHS0791, "Procedure for Replacing the Software For the Timing Control Module"

Description of Change: A timing control module is used on these engines. The new timing control module will change the ignition timing back to the manual mode if the ignition system fails to change to the automatic mode above 500 rpm. The engine will then shut down and the diagnostic code of 326-11 Timing Control System Problem will be displayed. The new strategy will limit the amount of unburned gas that enters the exhaust.

Adaptable To: The new 179-4944 Electronic Control (Timing Control Module) is a direct replacement for the former 162-0418 Engine Electronic Control (Timing Control Module). The former timing control module has been cancelled.

All of the revisions that were made to the new timing control module are available as the new 179-4946 Electronic Control (Software Update). This new software can be installed in the former timing control module. See the Reference Engine News article. Installation instructions for the new software update can be found in the Reference Special Instruction. This Special Instruction will be shipped with each new software update.
