Assembly Procedure
Note: Ensure that all of the oil holes in the rocker shaft and in the rocker arms are not plugged before you begin the assembly procedure.

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |

- Lubricate all of the components with clean engine oil before assembly.
- Install spring (2) and spacer (3) onto the rocker shaft (1) .
- Install rocker lever (5) onto the rocker shaft (1) .
- Install rocker shaft bracket (4) onto the rocker shaft (1) .
- Install retaining ring (6) on the end of the rocker shaft (1) .
Note: The rocker shaft bracket (4) on newer engines is a split assembly. .
End By: Install the rocker shaft assembly. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Rocker Shaft and Pushrod - Install".
