Starting the Engine
The electronic control module (ECM) will automatically provide the correct amount of fuel for starting the engine.
The ECM will maintain a low idle engine speed after the initial engine start-up until the engine oil pressure reaches 138 kPa (20 psi). This feature provides protection to the bearing surfaces within the engine: camshaft, crankshaft, rocker arms, connecting rod assembly and so on. This feature also provides protection to the components of the gear train, the pistons, and the liners.
At a jacket water coolant temperature below 30 °C (86 °F), it may be necessary to use a starting aid.
