Description of Change: The new spring retainer in the coupler valve does not have a guide. The guide on the former retainer could interfere with the housing for the spool. The interference would prevent the spool for the quick coupler from shifting between the lock and the unlocked position.

Adaptable To: The new 287-2352 Spring Retainer replaces the former 6E-5436 Spring Retainer in the 254-3080 Coupler Valve Gp. The new retainer is effective with the models that are listed in Table 1. The new retainer is adaptable to the models that are listed. The location of the new retainer is shown in Illustration 1.

Replace the former spring retainer with the new 287-2352 Spring Retainer if the quick coupler will not shift between the lock and the unlocked position.

An alternate solution is the removal of the guide from the former retainer. Disassemble the 6E-5436 Spring Retainer from the coupler valve. Remove the guide by grinding. Reassemble the modified retainer in the coupler valve.
