Misalignment of the Suction Strainer Can Cause Aeration on 301.6C and 301.8C Mini Hydraulic Excavators{5056, 5068} Caterpillar

Misalignment of the Suction Strainer Can Cause Aeration on 301.6C and 301.8C Mini Hydraulic Excavators{5056, 5068}

Usage:

301.6C JBB
Mini Hydraulic Excavator:
301.6C (S/N:: JBB1-449)
301.8C (S/N:: JSB1-658)

Introduction

Misalignment of the suction strainer can cause oil aeration.

Problem

The orientation of notch (3) must be opposite of screen (2) .

246-3297 Strainer (1) has sometimes been misaligned by the supplier in relation to screen (2) and notch (3). The misalignment of the screen can potentially cause the screen to be out of the oil. Oil aeration will occur if the screen is not fully submerged in oil.

Solution

If oil aeration occurs, start by checking the level of the hydraulic oil in the tank. Low oil in the tank can cause aeration. If the level of the hydraulic oil is correct and aeration still occurs check the orientation of screen (2). The orientation of the screen should be opposite of notch (3). Orienting the notch directly upward will ensure that the screen is submerged in oil.
