E017 High Engine Coolant Temperature Warning

Usage:

988G 2TW
Conditions Which Generate This Code:

The Electronic Control Module (ECM) detects all of the following conditions:

  • Engine coolant temperature is greater than 107 °C (225 °F) for more than four seconds.

  • 110-03 "Engine Coolant Temperature open/short to +batt" is not active.

  • 110-04 "Engine Coolant Temperature short to ground" is not active.

System Response:

The ECM will log the warning. This event is deactivated if coolant temperature falls below 103 °C (217 °F), or if the following diagnostic codes become active:

  • 110-03 "Engine Coolant Temperature open/short to +batt"

  • 110-04 "Engine Coolant Temperature short to ground"

Possible Performance Effect:

  • Low power

Troubleshooting:

  • There may be a problem with the cooling system.

  • There may be a problem with the coolant temperature sensor.

Test Step 1. Check the Cooling System

Refer to the information on the cooling system in the engine's Testing and Adjusting manual.

Results:

  • OK - STOP
