Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
- Remove bolts (1) and the washers.

- Remove relief valve (2) and cylinder block cover (3) from the cylinder block as a unit.
- Temporarily cover the opening in the cylinder block in order to prevent debris from entering the crankcase.
- Remove O-ring seal (5) from the cylinder block cover. Discard the O-ring seal.
- Remove bolts (4) and the washers in order to remove relief valve (2) from cylinder block cover (3) .
- Remove O-ring seal (6). Discard the O-ring seal.
Installation Procedure

- Install a new O-ring seal (6) behind relief valve (2) .

- Install bolts (4) and the washers in order to attach relief valve (2) to cylinder block cover (3) .
- Install a new O-ring seal (5) behind the cylinder block cover.
- Remove the temporary cover from the opening in the cylinder block.
- Install relief valve (2) and cylinder block cover (3) on the cylinder block as a unit.
- Install bolts (1) and the washers.
