Note: Check the condition of all the parts of the counterweight cylinder for wear or damage. If any of the parts are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement.

  1. Lower the temperature of the bearing for the cylinder assembly. Use Tool (C) to install the bearing into the pin bore of the cylinder assembly. Install the bearing until the bearing is centered in the bore. Use Tool (C) to install two lip seals (2) in the pin bore of the cylinder assembly until the seals contact the bearing. Install the seals so that the sealing lips are facing out.

  1. Lower the temperature of the bearing for the rod assembly. Use Tool (C) to install the bearing into the pin bore of the rod assembly. Install the bearing until the bearing is centered in the bore. Use Tool (C) to install two lip seals (9) in the pin bore of the rod assembly until the seals contact the bearing. Install the seals so that the sealing lips are facing out.

  1. Install bearing (15) and ring retainer (14) in head (7) .

Note: Make sure that the grooves for the seals in head (7) are thoroughly clean prior to assembly.

  1. Install seal (16), seal (17), and ring (18) in head (7), as shown.

  1. Apply 4C-4032 Bearing Mount Compound to the groove for the wiper seal prior to assembly. Use Tool (C) to install seal (19) in head (7). Install seal (19) with the sealing lip toward the outside of the cylinder assembly (1) .

  1. Install O-ring seal (5) and ring (6) in head (7), as shown.

  1. Apply clean hydraulic oil on the lip of seal (19), ring (18), seal (17) and seal (16) .

  1. Put head (6) in position on cylinder assembly (1). Install bolts (8) that secure the head.

  1. Fasten a suitable lifting device to the cylinder assembly (1). Temporarily install cylinder assembly (1) and head (7) onto the rod assembly. Remove bolts (8). Remove cylinder assembly (1) from the rod assembly and the head.

  1. Install seal assembly (12), ring (11), and ring (13) on piston (4). Lubricate the outside of piston (4) with 1P-0808 Multipurpose Grease .

  1. Install piston (4) on rod assembly (10). Lubricate the threads on the end of rod assembly (10) with 1P-0808 Multipurpose Grease .

  1. Install locknut (3). Use Tool (B) to tighten locknut (3) to a torque of 4600 ± 230 N·m (3393 ± 170 lb ft) for the counterweight.

  1. Fasten a suitable lifting device to the cylinder assembly (1). Slide the cylinder assembly (1) over the rod assembly (10) until the cylinder assembly (1) meets head (7) .

  1. Install bolts (8) that secure head (7) to the cylinder assembly. Tighten bolts (8) .
