  1. Be sure that all parts of the swing drive are thoroughly clean prior to assembly.

    Note: Split spacer (6) is available in several thicknesses.

  2. Use the following procedure to determine the correct thickness of split spacer (6):

    1. Measure the width (A) of the groove in pinion shaft (7) for split spacer (6).

    2. The maximum clearance (C) that is allowed is 0.06 mm (0.002 inch). Subtract clearance (C) 0.06 mm (0.002 inch) from width (A) that was measured in step 2.a. This is the dimension (B).

    3. The measurement (A) is the maximum thickness that is allowed for a split spacer. The calculation of dimension (B) is the minimum allowable thickness for a split spacer. Use the maximum dimension (A) and the minimum dimension (B) to identify the correct thickness of the split spacer.

    4. Install the appropriate split spacer in Step 11.

  3. Heat cage (16). Install the cage on pinion shaft (7). Be sure that the cage is seated against the cage.

  4. Heat bearing cone (15). Install the bearing cone on pinion shaft (7). Be sure that the bearing cone is seated against the cage.

  5. Apply 5P-3413 Pipe Sealant to the bore in the swing drive housing at the location of lip-type seal (11). Use Tool (A) to install lip-type seal (11) in the swing drive housing. Install the seal until the seal makes contact with the counterbore in the housing and with the lip. The lip should face toward the inside of the housing.

  6. Lower the temperature of bearing cup (12). Install the bearing cup in the swing drive housing. Be sure that the bearing cup is seated properly. Apply 5P-0960 Molybdenum Grease on the bearing cup.

  7. Turn over the swing drive housing. Lower the temperature of bearing cup (14). Install the bearing cup in the swing drive housing. Be sure that the bearing cup is seated properly. Apply 5P-0960 Molybdenum Grease on the bearing cup.

  8. Check the condition of O-ring seal (13). If the seal is damaged, use a new part for replacement. Apply 1U-6395 O-Ring Assembly Compound on O-ring seal (13). Install the O-ring seal in the swing drive housing, as shown.

  9. Put the swing drive housing in a press, as shown. Install pinion shaft (7) in the swing drive housing with the press. Be sure that the cage is seated against the bearing cup in the swing drive housing.

  10. Install bearing cone (10) in the swing drive housing. Seat the bearing cone with a brass punch and hammer.

  11. Use a hammer and a punch to install the correct split spacer (6) that was determined in Steps 2.a through 2.c in the groove in the pinion shaft. Use a hammer and a punch to install the split spacer.

  12. Install two dowel pins (8) in the swing drive housing.

  13. Install carrier assembly (5) in the swing drive housing.

  14. Install gear (4) in the carrier assembly.

  15. Install ring gear (3) in the original location on swing drive housing (9). It may be necessary to rotate the ring gear back and forth in order to engage all gears in carrier assembly (5).

  16. Install carrier assembly (2) in the ring gear. Install sun gear (1) in the carrier assembly.

End By:

  1. Install the swing drive. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Swing Drive - Install".
