Swing Drive - Disassemble

Disassembly Procedure

Start By:

  1. Remove the swing drive. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Swing Drive - Remove" in this manual.


NOTICE

Failure to properly assemble parts or failure to follow established procedures can lead to damage of the parts and assembly.

To avoid damage to parts, always identify and mark the parts so that they can be installed in the same location. Ensure that gear surfaces align. Never force parts during assembly.

  1. Be sure that the swing drive is thoroughly clean prior to disassembly.

  2. Position the swing drive on wood blocks, as shown. The weight of the swing drive is 52 kg (115 lb).

  3. Make an alignment mark on the ring gear and on the swing drive housing for assembly purposes.

  4. Remove sun gear (1) from the carrier assembly. Remove carrier assembly (2) from the ring gear.

  5. Remove ring gear (3) from the swing drive housing.

  6. Remove gear (4) from the carrier assembly. Remove carrier assembly (5) from the end of the pinion shaft.

  7. Use a hammer and a punch to remove split spacer (6).

  8. Put the swing drive housing and the pinion shaft in a press, as shown. The weight of the unit is 36 kg (80 lb).

  9. Press the pinion shaft (7) out of the swing drive housing.

  10. Remove swing drive housing (9) over the pinion shaft. The weight of the swing drive housing with the bearings and seal is 20 kg (45 lb).

  11. If necessary, remove two dowel pins (8) from the swing drive housing.

  12. Remove bearing cone (10) from the swing drive housing. The bearing is a slip fit.

  13. Remove bearing cup (12) from the swing drive housing.

  14. Remove lip-type seal (11) from the swing drive housing.

  15. Turn over the swing drive housing. Remove O-ring seal (13) from the swing drive housing.

  16. Remove bearing cup (14) from the swing drive housing.

  17. Put the pinion shaft in a press, as shown. Press pinion shaft (7) out of bearing cone (15) and cage (16).
