Note: Ensure that the pushrods are installed in the original location and that the pushrods are seated in the valve lifters correctly.

  1. Install eight pushrods (6) into the cylinder head.

  1. Put rocker shaft assembly (4) in position on the cylinder head.

Note: Roll pins (5) are installed in the brackets of rocker shaft (4) in order to align rocker shaft assembly (4) with oil holes (7) in the cylinder head. Oil holes (7) provide lubrication to rocker shaft (4) .

Note: Rocker shaft assembly (4) contains three plates (2) that include the studs for the valve mechanism cover. The plates must be installed in the original location in order to install the valve mechanism cover.

  1. Put plates (2) in position in the original location.

  1. Install eight bolts (1) and four nuts (3) on rocker shaft assembly (4) finger tight.

Note: Ensure that the adjustment screws are properly seated in the ends of the pushrods.

Note: It may be necessary to loosen the adjustment screws on each rocker arm. This will help prevent a bent valve or a bent pushrod during the installation of the rocker shaft.

  1. Tighten four nuts (3). Begin with the outer nuts and work toward the inner nuts.

  1. Tighten eight bolts (1). Begin with the outer bolts and work toward the inner bolts.

  1. Tighten four nuts (3) to a torque of 22 N·m (16 lb ft). Tighten eight bolts (1) to a torque of 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  1. Adjust the inlet and the exhaust valve lash to 0.35 mm (0.0138 inch). Refer to the Testing and Adjusting Module, "Engine Valve Lash - Inspect/Adjust" topic for more information on adjusting the valve lash.

End By: Install the valve mechanism cover. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Valve Mechanism Cover - Remove and Install".
