Introduction
The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.
Problem
Internal splines that connect the brake anchor to the spindle may develop cracks near the port for the brake cooling oil on the machines list above.
Solution
Caterpillar is aware of this problem and is recommending the follow interim corrective action.

(A) Brake Anchor |
Inspect splines in brake anchor (A) for cracking at component Planned Component Rebuild (PCR) using dye penetrant or magnetic particle detection. The entire spline area should be inspected, but the focus should be in the area around the brake cooling port as shown in Illustration 1.
If any cracks are detected in brake anchor (A), replace with same part.
If there is a failure, create a Service Information Management System (SIMS) entry for the failed Send It Back (SIB) request. A SIB request will be issued to you through the SIB process after the SIMS entry is created. Submit the failed part and reference CPI number 442538 to SIMS.
Take pictures of the condition of brake anchor (A) prior to repair including pictures of any casting identification numbers and/or logos and attach the pictures to Service Information Management System (SIMS) report.
