The parking brake is controlled by moving the shift lever in and out of the PARK position.
The secondary braking function acts as a backup braking system to the service brake system. Secondary braking is controlled by a pedal that is located on the floor to the left of the service brake pedal. The Brake ECM monitors the pedal position and the Brake ECM controls the actuation of the secondary brake .
The brake light function controls the illumination of the rear brake lights. Illumination of the rear brake lights is dependent on the position of the service brake, secondary brake, and retarder lever. The brake light function is controlled by the Brake ECM.
Service Brake Accumulator Bleed Function
The bleed function of the service brake accumulator automatically purges pressure from the service brake accumulator when the key start switch is turned OFF. The service brake accumulator pressure is monitored by the Brake ECM. The service brake accumulator bleed function is controlled by the Chassis ECM.
The manual retarding function energizes the "Automatic Retarding Control (ARC)" solenoid in order to apply the service brakes. The retarder lever is monitored by the ECM in order to determine the current necessary to apply to the "ARC" solenoid.
