The case drain filter is a cartridge type filter. The amount of foreign material that enters the hydraulic system is reduced when the filter element is replaced.
- Level the machine using the stabilizers. Stop the machine engine.
Note: The return filter cartridge and the hydraulic tank breaker relief valve are located in the rear right-hand access compartment.
- Move the hydraulic lockout control to the armed position.
- Turn the engine start switch to the ON position.
- Move the joysticks and the travel levers/pedals to the full stroke positions to relieve the pressure in the pilot lines.
- Turn the engine start switch to the OFF position and return the lever for the hydraulic lockout control to the LOCKED position.

- Remove the used case drain filter.
Note: Dispose of used filters according to local regulations.
- Clean the filter base.

- Install the new oil filter by hand.
Instructions for the installation of the filter are printed on the side of each Caterpillar spin-on filter. For non-Caterpillar filters, refer to the installation instructions that are provided by the supplier of the filter.
- Start the engine and operate the machine slowly for 10 to 15 minutes. Move each cylinder evenly through several cycles.
- Stop the engine.
- Check the hydraulic oil level.
