------ WARNING! ------

Hot oil and hot components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or hot components to contact skin.

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

NOTICE

When performing maintenance above ground level, always use appropriate devices such as ladders and man lift machines.

The case drain filter is a cartridge type filter. The amount of foreign material that enters the hydraulic system is reduced when the filter element is replaced.

  1. Level the machine using the stabilizers. Stop the machine engine.

Note: The return filter cartridge and the hydraulic tank breaker relief valve are located in the rear right-hand access compartment.

  2. Move the hydraulic lockout control to the armed position.

  3. Turn the engine start switch to the ON position.

  4. Move the joysticks and the travel levers/pedals to the full stroke positions to relieve the pressure in the pilot lines.

  5. Turn the engine start switch to the OFF position and return the lever for the hydraulic lockout control to the LOCKED position.

Instructions for the installation of the filter are printed on the side of each Caterpillar spin-on filter. For non-Caterpillar filters, refer to the installation instructions that are provided by the supplier of the filter.

  12. Start the engine and operate the machine slowly for 10 to 15 minutes. Move each cylinder evenly through several cycles.

  13. Stop the engine.

  14. Check the hydraulic oil level.

Reference: For the correct procedure, refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Hydraulic System Oil Level - Check".
