The ATAAC pump is a fixed displacement gear pump on the left side of the engine.
The drive shaft turns drive gear (5), which forces idler gear (4) to turn. A seal is formed by the gears against the pump housing. As the gears turn, oil enters through pump inlet port (2). The oil is trapped between the teeth and the pump housing. The oil is pulled around the outside of the gears. The oil is then forced out of pump outlet port (3).
Since gear motor (1) is a fixed displacement gear-type pump, the oil flow rate is directly proportional to the speed of the engine.
