Brake Pedal - Test

Usage:

CW-16 N6J

------ WARNING! ------

Diesel engine exhaust contains products of combustion which may cause personal injury.

Always start and operate the engine in a well ventilated area, and, if in an enclosed area, vent the exhaust to the outside.

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury or death can result from sudden machine movement.

Sudden movement of the machine can cause injury to persons on or near the machine.

To prevent injury or death, make sure that the area around the machine is clear of personnel and obstructions before operating the machine.

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury can result from rotating and moving parts.

Moving fan blades and moving parts will throw or cut any object or tool that falls or is pushed into them.

Make sure no one is working on, underneath or close to an engine that is running. Make sure the area is free of personnel.

Introduction

The brake pedal actuates the braking system by controlling the flow of hydraulic oil to the brake assemblies. Perform this procedure to determine if the brake pedal and machine brakes are functioning properly.

Test Preparation

Note: Verify that the main relief valve is within specification prior to performing this procedure. Refer to Systems Operation Testing and Adjusting, Relief Valve (Main) - Test and Adjust.

Note: The machine may move during this test.

  1. Drive the machine to a smooth, horizontal surface.

  3. Monitor the hydraulic oil temperature on display (2). Operate the machine until the oil temperature reaches a minimum of 45 °C (113 °F).

Test Procedure

    Illustration 3g06025646

  1. Depress brake pedal (3) to the full BRAKE position.

  2. Slowly move propel lever (1) to the full "FORWARD" position. The machine should not move.

  3. Move propel lever (1) back to the NEUTRAL position.

  4. Slowly move propel lever (1) to the full "REVERSE" position. The machine should not move.

  5. If there is any machine movement during this test, repair or replace the brakes.
