Introduction

The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.

Problem

Reports have been received from the field that, the noise comes from the 369-4660 Rear Axle Gp on the machines listed above. The noise is noticed when applying the brake to stop the machine, but there is no noise when applying the brake to slow down the machines. This problem happens with both double and single brake application.

This noise does not indicate a failure in the axle, and there is no reduction in axle durability.

Solution

Caterpillar is aware of this problem, and is recommending the following Interim Corrective action.

Drain the oil from the rear axle and check for any presence of foreign particles. If everything is fine, refill the oil with additive 700 ml as per recommendation. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Final Drive Oil (Rear) - Change.". The nose level will gradually reduce after 50 hours of machine operation.
