A Procedure Is Available to Install New Cable Guides for the Cab on Certain 553C, 563C, 573C, 2570C, and 2670C Wheel Feller Bunchers {0679, 3065, 3168, 5154, 5180, 7050, 7301}

Description of Change: A procedure is available to install new cable guides on certain Wheel Feller Bunchers. The new cable guides will allow easier transition of the cable assembly when lowering the cab.

Adaptable To: The procedure is effective with the following machines.

  • 553C (S/N: W53102)

  • 563C (S/N: JCB325) (S/N: W63110)

  • 573C (S/N: RJT297) (S/N: W73103)

  • 2570C (S/N: F1B217)

  • 2670C (S/N: B3E172)

The procedure is adaptable with the following machines:

  • 553C (S/N: W531-101)

  • 563C (S/N: JCB317-324; W631-109)

  • 573C (S/N: RJT294-296; W731-102)

  • 2570C (S/N: F1B214-216)

  • 2670C (S/N: B3E1-171)

Machine Preparation

  1. Move the machine to a smooth level area that can support the weight of the machine.

  1. Lower all implements to the ground.

  1. Shut down and lock out the machine. Attach a "Do Not Operate" warning tag or similar warning to the start switch or the controls before attempting the installation procedure on the machine. These warning tags are available from your Caterpillar dealer.

  1. Move all pedals and controls to the full range of motion to release any pressure in the systems.

  1. Install steering frame lock.

Procedure to Install Cable Guides

  1. Remove the cab. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly Manual, KENR7577, "Cab - Remove and Install" for information.

    Note: The cable assembly will need to be removed or positioned out of the way in order to install the new cable guides.

    (C) Bracket assembly

    (1) 419-2606 Cable Guide

    (3) 8T-3597 Weld Nuts

  1. Weld two weld nuts (3) onto cable guide (1) as shown in Illustration 2. Place cable guide (1) into position through bracket assembly (C) .

  1. Using two bolts (4) and two hard washers (5), attach cable guide (2) onto cable guide (1) .

  1. Using dimensions (A) and (B) from Illustration 4, skip weld two attached cable guides (1) and (2) into position on frame (D) .

  1. Reposition cable assembly (E) into the new cable guides.

  1. Reinstall the cab. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly Manual, KENR7577, "Cab - Remove and Install" for information.

    Note: During the reinstallation process of the cab and lift cylinder, extra caution should be used in lowering the cab for the first time.
