797 and 797B Off-Highway Truck C175-20 Engine Retrofit Procedure Caterpillar

This Special Instruction contains referenced information that is needed in order to retrofit the 797 and the 797B Off-Highway Truck with the C175-20 engine.

Use the referenced documents in order to perform the procedures that are listed.

Remove the Air Cleaner Cover

Reference: Disassembly and Assembly, RENR2035, "797 Off-Highway Truck Engine Supplement". Retain all parts.

Reference: Disassembly and Assembly, RENR2573, "797B Off-Highway Truck Engine Supplement". Retain all parts.

Remove the Radiator Module

Reference: Disassembly and Assembly, RENR2035, "797 Off-Highway Truck Engine Supplement". Retain all parts.

Reference: Disassembly and Assembly, RENR2573, "797B Off-Highway Truck Engine Supplement". Retain all parts.

Note: The radiator module will need to be reworked.

Remove the Main Drive Shaft

Reference: Disassembly and Assembly, RENR2036, "797 Off-Highway Truck Power Train". Discard all parts.

Reference: Disassembly and Assembly, RENR2577, "797B Off-Highway Truck Power Train". Discard all parts.

Remove the Pump Drive Shaft

Reference: Disassembly and Assembly, RENR2037, "797 Off-Highway Truck Machine Systems". Discard all parts.

Reference: Disassembly and Assembly, RENR2588, "797B Off-Highway Truck Machine Systems". Discard all parts.

Remove the Engine and the Torque Converter

Reference: Disassembly and Assembly, RENR2035, "797 Off-Highway Truck Engine Supplement". Retain all parts.

Reference: Disassembly and Assembly, RENR2573, "797B Off-Highway Truck Engine Supplement". Retain Tube (1), eight bolts (2), shims (4), and all of the hardware for mounting the engine.

Remove Muffler

Reference: Disassembly and Assembly, RENR2035, "797 Off-Highway Truck Engine Supplement". Retain all parts.

Reference: Disassembly and Assembly, RENR2573, "797B Off-Highway Truck Engine Supplement". Retain all parts.
