Start By:

  1. Remove the center drive shaft.

  2. Remove the hitch drive shaft.

------ WARNING! ------

At operating temperature, the hydraulic tank is hot and under pressure.

Hot oil and components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.

Remove the filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. Remove the filler cap slowly in order to relieve pressure.



NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Engage the parking brake and use Tooling (F) to chock the wheels. Turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.

  2. If installed, loosen clamps (1) and remove tube assembly (2).

  3. Disconnect six hose assemblies (4). Disconnect two harness assemblies (5) (not shown). Remove bolt (3) and position six hose assemblies (4) to the side.

  4. Position Tooling (A) under the rear frame and position Tooling (B) under the front frame. Remove clamp (6).

  5. Attach a suitable lifting device, Tooling (E), Tooling (C), and Tooling (D) to bumper (7).

  6. Secure a lift truck to the front of the machine.

  7. Remove bolts (10). Remove locking plate (9).

  8. Position locking plate (9) and remove thrust plate (11).

  9. Remove bolt (12) and washer (13) in order to remove shaft yoke (14) and the O-ring seal from bearing carrier (15) and the hitch drive shaft.

  10. Remove bolts (17). Install Tooling (G) into the threaded holes in bearing carrier (16) in order to disconnect bearing carrier (16) from the hitch tube. Remove Tooling (G).

  11. Attach a suitable lifting device and Tooling (H) to bearing carrier (16). The weight of bearing carrier (16) and the hitch drive shaft is approximately 56 kg (123 lb). Remove bearing carrier (16) and the hitch drive shaft.

  12. Use the lift truck and the suitable lifting device in order to separate the front frame from the rear frame. The weight of the front frame is approximately 1361 kg (3000 lb). Reposition Tooling (A) under the front frame.
