NOTE: | This Containment Program can be administered either before or after a failure occurs. In either case the decision whether to apply the Program is made by the dealer and service rep. Obtain the service reps Goodwill Approver Code before completing the repair. EAME dealers should use their standard Industry Group specific goodwill approval codes. The Goodwill Approver Code must be included when submitting the claim. |

If administered before failure, use "56" as Warranty Claim Description and "T" as the SIMS Description Code. PROBLEM
The existing cylinder block to flywheel housing joint can weep oil on certain 3512C HD Locomotive Engines. If the existing joint leaks oil, it becomes a nuisance leak for the customer. FRA Administration requires all leaks to be repaired before putting this passenger locomotive into service. |

ACTION REQUIRED
This procedure should be performed at a planned overhaul maintenance interval or when the engine has already been removed from the locomotive for planned maintenance. This program only covers the modification to the rear housing and provides the beaded gasket. Refer to REHS7873, Special Instruction, "Installation of the 309-4550 Gasket on Certain 3500 Marine Tier I and Tier II Engines, Petroleum Engines, and Locomotives Engines", for the modification procedure to use the new 309-4550 Gasket with the existing flywheel housing. |
