The hydraulic fan system is used to meet the cooling requirements. The hydraulic fan system reduces the horsepower that drives hydraulic fan in a cooler or light work application.
Oil flows from piston pump (hydraulic fan) (1) through oil filter (hydraulic fan) (2) and makeup valve (hydraulic fan) (3) to piston motor (hydraulic fan) (4). Oil flows from piston motor (hydraulic fan) (4) to the front wheels for brake cooling then to the hydraulic tank.
Piston motor (hydraulic fan) (4) is a fixed displacement motor. The fan speed is determined by the amount of flow from piston pump (hydraulic fan) (1). Piston pump (hydraulic fan) (1) is a variable displacement piston pump that is controlled by the Chassis Electronic Control Module (ECM). Fan speed is controlled by the Brake ECM. Fan speed will vary depending on many inputs.
If the supply oil to the fan stops suddenly, the inertia of the fan will continue to rotate the piston motor (hydraulic fan) (4).
