Hydraulic Oil Filter - Replace - Brake, Steering, Fan, and Hoist

Usage:

794 AC HRT

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, PERJ1017, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


Note: The brake, steering, fan, and hoist systems share common hydraulic oil.

  1. Prepare the machine for maintenance. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Prepare the Machine for Maintenance".

    (1) Brake and Steering filter
    (2) Fan pump filter
    (3) Hoist filters

  2. Remove the drain plug from the bottom of filter housing (1), (2), and (3). Drain the oil into a suitable container.

  3. Inspect the seal for the drain plug. Replace a damaged seal with a new seal. Wash the drain plug-in clean nonflammable solvent and install the drain plug.

  4. Remove the filter housing.

  5. Remove the filter element. Properly discard the used filter element.

  6. Inspect the seal for the filter housing. Replace a damaged seal with a new seal. Wash the filter housing in clean nonflammable solvent.

  7. Install the new filter element. Install the filter housing.

  8. Start the engine and operate the engine at low idle. Check for leaks and make any necessary repairs.

  9. Check the oil level in the hydraulic tank. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Hydraulic Tank Oil Level - Check" for the proper procedure. If necessary, add oil.
