  1. Use Tooling (B) and a suitable press in order to install bearing (46) in pump drive gear (44).

    Note: Apply Tooling (C) to the seal groove in stator carrier (45) before installing seal (47).

  2. Install seal (47) on stator carrier (45).

  3. Place the press supports underneath the inner race of bearing (46) in order to prevent damage to bearing (46).

  4. Use Tooling (B) and a suitable press in order to install stator carrier (45) in to bearing (46).

    Note: Before Installing stator carrier (45), ensure Tooling (C) has retained seal (47) evenly in the seal groove. If seal (47) protrudes from the seal groove, damage may occur when stator carrier (45) is installed.

  5. Install retaining ring (42). Install impeller (43) onto pump drive gear (44) (not shown).

  6. Install race (41) on impeller hub (40).

  7. Install impeller hub (40) and bolts (39). Tighten bolts (39) in an alternating pattern to the following torque 60 ± 7 N·m (44 ± 5 lb ft). Install bearing (38).

  8. Use Tooling (B) and a suitable press in order to install cam (37) (not shown) in stator (29).

    ------ WARNING! ------

    Personal injury can result from being struck by parts propelled by a released spring force.

    Make sure to wear all necessary protective equipment.

    Follow the recommended procedure and use all recommended tooling to release the spring force.


  9. Install race (34), freewheel springs (35), and freewheel rollers (34).

    Note: Be sure to install freewheel springs (35) with the lesser number of loops going toward race (34), as shown in Illustration 9.

  10. Install plate (33) and retaining ring (32) into stator (29).

  11. Turn the stator over and install plate (31) and retaining ring (30).

  13. Install bearing (28) on turbine hub (27).

  14. Connect turbine (26) to turbine hub (27). Install two bolts (14) in order to keep turbine (26) and turbine hub (27) together during Step 15.

  15. Install turbine (26) and turbine hub (27) as one unit. Remove bolts (14).

  18. Install clutch disc (22) and plate (22).

  19. Install springs (20) and (19) inside of springs (18). Install springs (18) in an alternating pattern. An example would be to install a spring (18) and with a spring (19) inside. The next one would be to install a spring (18) with a spring (20) inside.

  20. Install plate (17) to coupling assembly (15). Install bolts (16). Tighten bolts (16) to a torque of 50 ± 10 N·m (37 ± 7 lb ft).

  21. Install coupling assembly (15). Install bolts (14). Tighten bolts (14) to a torque of 60 ± 7 N·m (44 ± 5 lb ft).

  22. Install seal (13) into piston (12).

  24. Install O-ring seal (11). Install bearing (10) into clutch housing (8).

  25. Install clutch housing (8) onto the torque converter.

  26. Install bolts (7). Tighten bolts (7) to a torque of 60 ± 7 N·m (44 ± 5 lb ft). Install ring (9).

  27. use Tooling (B) to install new lip seal (6). Lower the temperature of cups (5) and (4). Install cups (5) and (4). Install bearings (3).

  28. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to torque converter housing (1). The weight of torque converter housing (1) is approximately 159 kg (350 lb).

  29. Lower torque converter housing (1) onto the torque converter. Keep suitable tension on the lifting device in order to stabilize the torque converter and torque converter housing (1). Install bolts (2). Tighten bolts (2) to the following torque 55 ± 10 N·m (41 ± 7 lb ft).

End By:

  1. Connect the torque converter to the transmission.
