Usage:
Below certain temperatures, cold starting an engine can reduce the voltage available to the 2301 load sharing and speed control unit, thereby preventing full rack. The 9G8187 Relay Assembly ensures that the control units receive the necessary voltage. It is recommended that the cold start relay be installed on 2301 control units if the engine is to be started at temperatures below 40°F (4°C) on units without the 4W5391 Preregulator or below 50°F (10°C) on units with the preregulator. The cold start relay can not be used for tandem engine applications since these applications require a separate power supply for the 2301 control unit. Install 9G8187 Relay as shown on the next page.
Mount the 9G8187 Relay at a convenient location on the engine. Connect relay (1) to battery (2) and starting switch (3) as shown. Connect relay (1) to terminals 17 and 28 on 2301 control unit (4) as shown in the wiring diagram.
