D399 (35B, 36Z)
5N1997 Governor Shield Group must be installed on the above engines when equipped with a Woodward UG8 Governor. The heat shield is necessary for long service life of the governor. Without the shield, the governor operates too hot and oil in the governor breaks down. To install the governor shield group, see the instructions that follow.
(1) Fasten 5N1994 Strap (1) and 5N1995 Strap (2) to 5N1996 Shield (3) with two L1351 Bolts (4), four 5M2894 Washers and two 1D4717 Nuts. Fasten 5N1993 Brackets (5) to shield (3) with four L1351 Bolts (6), eight 5M2894 Washers and four 1D4717 Nuts. Do not tighten the bolts.
NOTE: Do not put paint on shield (3).
(2) Remove two bolts (7) and the nuts from the exhaust pipe. Remove four bolts (8), lockwashers and washers from manifold group (9). On the D399, remove the spacers from under clip (10) and bracket (11) when bolts (8) are removed from the manifold groups.
(3) Put shield (3) in position on the engine. Fasten straps (1) and (2) to the exhaust pipe with two 1A1460 Bolts (12), four 5P8245 Washers and two 1D4719 Nuts. Fasten the brackets to the manifold group with four S1594 Bolts (13) and four 5M2894 Washers. For the D399, install an 8L5423 Spacer under clip (10) and a 3N1379 Spacer under bracket (11) when bolts (13) are installed. Tighten the bolts that hold the straps and brackets to the shield.
