Discharge Recommendations For Gas Operated Counterbalance Support Assemblies{7250, 7300} Caterpillar

1 Put support assembly (1) in horizontal position in a bench vise and tighten the vise.

2 Put several shop towels or rags (four minimum) over the end of the cylinder in the vise as shown.

3 Measure 38.10 mm (1.50") in from the fixed end of the cylinder; use a center punch and a hammer to drive the punch through the towels and into the cylinder until the gas just begins to leak off.

4 Hold the towel and punch in place until all the gas has been released. Then, slowly remove the punch. The released oil will be absorbed by the towel.

5 With the towel over the hole, push shaft (2) completely into the cylinder to remove any remaining oil.

6 Remove the assembly from the vise and discard (throw away).
