Usage:
According to the voltage of the engine starting system, one of the fuel boost pump groups can be installed on the above engines. Installation of a fuel boost pump will give assistance to the standard fuel transfer pump for better fuel delivery, in all engine applications. A primary fuel filter, which is part of the fuel boost pump group, must also be installed. Installation procedure for the fuel boost pump group is as follows.
The above schematic shows the location of the fuel system parts after installation of the fuel boost pump group. Parts shown are: 1-Fuel supply tank; 2-8H4681 Primary Fuel Filter; 3-Fuel boost pump; 4-Water separator; 5-Fuel filter (existing); 6-Sleeve Meter Fuel Injection Pump and Governor; 7-Fuel boost pump electrical connections; 8-Power source for fuel boost pump.
NOTE: Install the primary fuel filter and the fuel boost pump as near as possible to the fuel tank.
(1) Disconnect the battery and shut off the fuel supply to the engine. Install 8H4681 Primary Fuel Filter in a location that will give good access for filter service when needed. Be sure to install the filter so the IN port is toward the fuel supply tank. The IN and OUT ports of the filter cover have 3/8"-18 threads for fuel line connections.
(2) Install fuel boost pump (3) on a good solid surface, and in a location where it will not get damaged by too much water or other foreign material. Do not install fuel boost pump (3) on a surface that can have, or give, vibration. The IN port must be toward primary fuel filter (2). The IN and OUT ports of fuel boost pump (3) have 1/4"-18 threads for fuel line connections.
NOTE: Do not install the fuel boost pump more than 24" (610) above the bottom of the fuel supply tank.
(3) Install and connect the fuel line from fuel supply tank (1) to primary fuel filter (2), from primary fuel filter (2) to fuel boost pump (3), and from fuel boost pump (3) to water separator (4), then to existing fuel filter (5) and fuel injection pump and governor (6).
(4) Use either of the electrical connections (7) for a ground. Clean all paint and rust from the location to install the ground wire. Use 16 gauge electrical wire for the electrical connections.
(5) Connect the other electrical connection (7) as follows:
A. If the installation is to have constant operation of the boost pump during engine operation, connect an electrical connection (7) to a power source that is energized when the engine is in operation
B. If constant operation of the fuel boost pump is not needed or is not desired, install an ON-OFF switch for the power source wire, between the power source and fuel boost pump (3).
(6) After installation is complete, turn on the fuel supply and connect the battery.
