Description of Change: The soft steel lock has been removed from behind the fuel pump idler gear. This lock was used to prevent two bolts and one nut from turning. The bolt heads and nut could become embedded into the softer lock material. This could allow the loss of tightening torque on the nut and bolts. This could result in the failure of fuel pump drive idler shaft and/or thrust plate. The soft steel lock has been replaced by two new bolts and washers. This change will help maintain the tightness of the bolts and nut.
Adaptable To: Chart A identifies the changed components in the front timing gear groups. Chart B lists the effectivity of the new components.
Location of components. (1) 0S1594 Bolt. (2) 5M2894 Washer. (3) 5B9079 Nut.
Caterpillar recommends that during any repair of the front gear train, the 5S7611 Lock be removed and discarded, and the former bolts be replaced with the new bolts and washers. Do not use anything under the 5B9079 Nut. Tighten the two new 0S1594 Bolts to a torque of 45 N ·m (35 lb ft). Tighten the 5B9079 Nut to a torque of 25 N· m (20 lb ft).
