Usage:
1.1 Liter Family Of Engines
Dealers have asked how to measure "dynamic rack " on these engines. Normal service procedures do NOT make reference to checking actual rack value with the engine running. Instead, the governor is calibrated or checked on the 1U7326 Governor Calibration Bench, and the Static Fuel Setting is checked/set as per the Fuel Setting Procedure provided in the engine Testing and Adjusting section of the Service Manual. However, when diagnosing certain complaints, dealers may need to determine if the governor and control shaft assembly are working together to give the correct injector rack travel during operation. This can be done using the 8T1000 Electronic Position Indication Group and the 3114/3116 Fuel Setting Fixture with the engine valve cover removed. But, this can only be done for very brief time periods because of oil splatter.
The illustration provides the dimensions for modifying a 3114 or 3116 valve cover to use as a "Test Cover". This "Test Cover" will help minimize oil splatter while checking "dynamic rack". There will still be some oil leakage, but the "Test Cover" will allow brief operation of the engine under "Full Load" conditions to measure actual "Maximum Rack ".
